Mimi nodded and followed Allisson to the building up ahead. It looked like a fairly respectable place, which made her feel slightly more comfortable about staying there. She was always nervous when she was traveling, especially when she was without her normal escort. They went inside and Mimi quickly located the person who seemed to be in charge.

"We'll need a room for the night," she said, "and if possible, do you know where we might hire a ride to the capitol?"

As she waited for a response, she glanced around the common room. It was a lot quieter than the inns she was used to; it had a somber atmosphere that seemed to cling to everyone in it. She shook her head and focused her attention back to the innkeeper. Some of the patrons here gave off a strange vibe, and she didn't want anyone to think that she was staring. In a place like this, it was better to fade into the shadows then stand out.

Leth sniggers as Dom sits next to him in his mood.
"Yeah...no, you just described this idiot here." Leth said, nudging Dom in the ribs.

"You know, you are lucky I allowed you to shoot yourself." Rhiana said to Dom over her shoulder.
"Blow it out your ear!" Dom said as he slums in his chair.

The innkeeper nodded as he listened to Mimi's requests.
"A room I can do ya fer," he said with a thick tongue, "but a wago' might be a probl'm. Ya see, th'only one we have is leavin' tonight for the capitol." He shrugged. "Would ya two like sometin to drink?"

Mimi shook her head, frustrated. It appeared that their 'short rest' would have to be postponed.
"We'll take the cart tonight then, thank you. How much for fare?"

The innkeeper scratched his head.
"Same rate as a room," he replied, slightly sullenly, "twenty silver. Tha'll be up front, mind ya."

Mimi sighed and fished out her money bag. Twenty silver was near robbery for a cart ride, especially when it was already going to the capitol, but the innkeeper didn't seem like the kind of man that was open to haggling. In his mind he'd either get money for a room or for a ride, so there was no point in lowering the price. Her pouch was depressingly light after paying the innkeeper, but at least they would get to the capitol tonight. By cart the trip should only be a matter of hours. She updated Alisson to the situation. Her companion seemed disappointed that they wouldn't be able to sleep here, but she agreed that it was important to reach the capitol as soon as possible. She could always rest in the cart, after all.

"Ere's my boy, Donovan" the innkeeper said when they reached the stables. Mimi raised her eyebrows, surprised. There was a cart alright, but she didn't see anything else except for a pile of slate just to the side of the barn. "Oy, come on boy! We've got customers, as it is!"

Mimi jumped a bit as the pile of rocks began to move, pieces of slate sliding over themselves until they gathered into a humanoid form. Ah. She hadn't seen a real golem before, but she recognized one when she saw it.
"Nice to meet you, Donovan," she said lightly with a big smile. The golem seemed surprised at being addressed, but quickly composed himself and gave her a deep bow.
"Thank you for your business," he said formally. From the way he said it, she suspected that he had a script that he was required to stick to when the boss was around. His voice was deep and gravely, matching his appearance perfectly. "We will be leaving for Imentum immediately, if you ladies are ready." Mimi indicated that they were, and before long they had arrived at the capitol. It hadn't changed much since she had last visited, although the streets seemed eerily quiet. She couldn't remember the streets ever being this empty before. She inquired to Donovan where he was headed in the city, pleasantly surprised to find that he, too, was going to the King's gathering. The group of three went to the castle together, finding that a large group of warriors had already gathered in the main hall.

Rhiana looked up from the ground where she had been making a small metal pin bend and flex itself. "Well, I would certainly like to see your brother and that Alan person stuck in a room. Entertainment would be a certainty if nothing else."
Then the pin went flying straight up and into the roof where it had fallen from, seconds later the door opened.

Not even Madric moved at Dom's comment, it seemed rather funny actually as he had just blown half his own head out of his ear... Kinda.
But even if he had he would of been cut off as once again the doors opened to show a strange group of people.
Rhiana sighed as she noticed the golem "Arg really? You couldn't be made of iron? That really could of made things fun." Although she spoke loudly enough for everyone to hear it was rather obvious she was speaking to herself.

Madric just raised an eyebrow but James was caught between a laugh and a yawn. Once that subsided he proceeded to ask the air around him how much longer they had to wait.

Everyone looks up and round towards the front door as it swings open like cats noticing potential prey. Leth looks at the time on his PDA. Huh...Not to long now. Only a few more minutes and they're meant the begin. He looks up from the screen at Ben. His nose was twitching. It meant he was thinking long and hard about something. He turns his head to Osiris.
"What is that?" He said, nodding forwards to the golem trudging through the door.
"It's a golem. Never seen one before then?" Osiris answered.
"Not any that were human shaped..." The both watched the new-comers walk in. Leth spots something moving out of the seat next to him.
"Hello, what a pleasure to meet you all here. I don't think we've met; I'm Domanic of the Late Hunt at Dawn. Who might you two lovely ladies be?" He said beaming...

Didn't take you long then...

Mimi huddled close to Donovan, suddenly intimidated by the large mass of people. She had expected a large showing, but not this excessive response. Donovan himself seemed content to stand silently to the side, although Mimi did notice him flinch slightly at the rude human's comment. She straightened her back as they were approached by a feline looking man who introduced himself as Domanic. She had been braced for rudeness; it seemed to run rampant in the capitol, but this stranger seemed oddly friendly.

"I'm Mimi, this is Allisson," she said in response. She opened her mouth to converse some more, but was interrupted by a sudden trumpet fanfare.

"Attention, all warriors and adventurers of Otiun! High King Zimgha is ready to make his announcement!" One steward declared in a loud and demanding voice.

A finely dressed man walked out in front of the thrown at the head of the room. Although a glimmering crown sat on his head, it was more his air of authority that marked him as king. He stood regally with his hands rested behind his back until every face in the room was turned towards him.

"My stewards suggest that I make a long speech here, but I find such an act unnecessary," he began in a deep booming voice. "Everyone here is aware of the strange disappearances certain persons in this kingdom: this kingdom that is under my direct protection and direction. This is unacceptable. My High Knights have tracked down several . . . oddities that might be connected to these vanishings. I will choose three groups to investigate these occurrences and discover if there is indeed any connection. Any group that does discover leads to these disappearances will be rewarded with titles as well as generous sums from the treasury. I will have members of my Knights talk to individuals to decide groups, after which I will assign these groups to particular leads. I appreciate everyone's cooperation in this matter." With that he stepped aside, and a handful of smartly armored men began walking among the crowd.

Mimi began to feel apprehension building in her chest. It was finally starting.

Leth leans forwards.
"Do you think they'll split us up?" He said to Osiris and Ben. They both return blank looks. Ben shrugs.
"They wouldn't break us up, we're too good a team." Osiris said, leaning back. "Be like separating...Errrm..."
"We're in a group now. The goons'll just group us as we are..." Dom said.
"Goons, eh?" Came this voice above him. Leth has every hair on his body stand on end as he looks up at the face glaring through the helmet.
"Heh...err..Slip of the tongue. Its...It's a compliment where I'm from." He says, attempting a pleasent grin.

Dom looks over towards the stage and then back to Mimi and Allisson.
"Sooo, shall we sit down?" He said, gesturing behind him to the chairs.

The group sat perfectly still as they listened to the thankfully short speech. All the time Rhiana's eyes were squarely on the king, watching him, barely blinking.

By the time one of the armoured men came around he had noticed her staring, although he did nothing to say so, other then flicking his eyes towards her once or twice.

"Mistress Rhiana, I've been told to ask you wether you would be open to being put with another group. Of course you understand this is only because of the... Diminished numbers of your once, substantial force."
The armoured man seemed rather nervous, more so once when Rhiana turned to him and smiled.

"Of course I would prefer those I trust, but as you made a point of, my groups... Diminished state. If you must, then team us up with that lot with the golem, excluding that man I had... A disagreement with before."

The man looks towards Madric and then James to see what they thought of this. When they shrugged he wrote down the request and nodded. "Anything else?"

Another smile "Oh yes, thank them for the considerations shown towards my group."

Sure they may not of been liked. But people still found reason to respect them, or fear them.

The guards finished making their rounds, both recording those who showed up and splitting them into large parties. They went mostly by how the majority was already grouped. After some deliberation they were able to make groups that were mostly balanced in talents. Those that arrived in groups were kept together or grouped with others where necessary. The guards read out the names of the groups one at a time. The last group read included Mimi, Donovan,
Domanic Kitsune, Lethanyal Kitsune, Benjamin Angus Fletchin, Osiris Amithyst, Madric Ethandon, Rhiana Burham, James Altor, Xane, Crow Hwanuh, and Alisson Rowen. The guards had noted Rhiana's request to be with Mimi and Donovan, but apparently ignored the rest of her statement.

"You all have your groups," spoke the main guard, "and will have your assignments momentarily. We have several leads to be followed up on. Someone will be with you shortly to give you your missions. In the name of High King Zimgha, good luck."

Mimi looked around with excitement at her group. They were a strange lot, but she was just happy that she had been assigned at all. She climbed up on Donovan's shoulder to get a better look, an action that caused the large golem to look at her questioningly. She simply grinned at him.

"Hi everyone," she said nervously. "I'm Mimi. It looks like we'll all be working together now, so we'll have to try to get along, okay?"

"OK." Leth said, barely looking up from the PDA as he jabs at it. He does wave briefly though. "Leth. Nice to meetcha."

Dom on the other hand, grins at Mimi.
"Ah good, we get to learn more about each other other the course of the mission." He said as Osiris steps forwards, chest puffed and arms clenched.
"The name's Osiris. This is Ben." He points to the now-waving Moogle at his feet. "We don't get the crap jobs, clear?"
Leth looks up from his screen: "We haven't been that bad, have we?"
Osiris' macho stance deflates a little.
"No but I'm making it clear, clear?" He explains.
"Right, right...Same for me please." Leth adds before returning to the PDA screen.

Rhiana rose from her seat, she had decided that if she had to be in the same group as the man she would simply ignore him.
"I guess they didn't actually intend me to be able to hand pick my group." She mumbled to herself.
Both James and Madric heard but thought it would be best if they didn't comment.

Rhiana walked forward towards the newly formed group, Madric and James on either side of her.
They were in earshot long enough to hear Osiris' little speech.
"No one gets the crap jobs. Things will be handled efficiently and with precision. We will all do what we are best at. That is the only way for this group to hold strong."
Rhiana clears her throat before speaking again.
"My name is Rhiana, this is Madric and this is James."
She points to each in turn.
"We are known as the gifted, and we have been hit pretty damn hard by whatever this thing is. We want to stop it, nothing more, nothing less."

To each side of her Madric and James grin, completely at odds with Rhiana's serious tone.

Ailsson walks over to her new group. There is an aura of non-humans in the party that is most likely the twins. "Hello. My name is Ailsson. I don't care for people don't pull their weight. It seems that everyone is getting hit by this. Even Death Gods.." she said calmly to the small group people around her. The earring shine faintly in the inn's light.

She is glad to see the young woman that she walk with in her group.

(Sorry it been awhile.)

Mimi wrapped herself around Alisson's arm in a friendly manner.

"I'm glad that we're in the same group!" she said with a giggle. She looked around at the rest of the group, excited. It was a little larger than she had imagined, but she looked forward to working with everyone. She hoped that they would all be able to get along; there seemed to be some tension between a few of them. Her eyes shifted to the yellow irises of a cat as she surveyed the rest of the room. Everyone seemed to be getting their orders. It looked like a soldier was bringing them theirs right now. She let her eyes return to normal as the letter was handed to Donovan. He looked a bit uncomfortable and handed the parchment to Mimi. She looked up - way up - at him questioningly, but glanced over the paper for him.

"Looks like we get to investigate the first reported disappearance," she said, summarizing the flowery words on the parchment. "Looks like he lived to the west, in a town called Shirri. It's at the base of the Langrin mountains. We're supposed to go there and see if anything strange had happened around the time he disappeared."

She made a face. She had been hoping to get an exciting assignment, but instead it looked like they would go snoop around a small town for clues that probably didn't exist. At least they had the possibility of running into creatures on the way there. If she remembered her maps right, they would have to pass through some deep woods -- at least if they were taking the most direct route.

"So, anyone ready for a road trip?"

"Road!" Dom loudly scoffs, stepping forwards. "We'll never get there in time for all the good stuff to still be there! No! We're flying." He said as he shoos members of his group out the way and marches out the door. He waves for them to follow him with a hand.

"Follow me! We'll travel in style, we should have some room." He said.

"Well..." Leth said, poking his PDA some more, "We're not carrying much in the way of cargo. Otherwise, we'd have to share the bedrooms we already have..."

Ben seemed oddly excited by the thought of doubling up, just by the wide look he got in his eyes. He sprints after Dom, out into the night air towards the airship docked near by.
