Kiely returned the smile, although hers was a little shaky. She sat down at the kitchen table, and watched Artemis finish up the tea. She cleared her throat.

"So," she said slightly awkwardly, "What happened? I mean. . . were you born like that, or. . . " she trailed off, not sure what to say.

Artemis turned to face her, nodding and setting down a cup of tea for her. "Yes, actually. Both of my parents were immortal. They fell in love, got married, and had me."

Kiely just nodded. This whole thing was starting to feel strangely normal. She rested her head on one hand and smiled.

"So, how many immortals are there? Like, how do you keep from being exposed?"

Artemis shook his head. "There's alot, actually. Not all of them are gods and goddesses, but most are good people." He sipped the tea and gave a light nod. "Almost all immortals have to obtain a license from the High Council when they reach the human age of 18. Which means that, tomorrow, I will go to the Council, take the field exam, and obtain my license, registering me to obtain my title. You've seen them before; Ares, God of War. Zeus, God of Thunder and Lightning...Mine will most likely be Time. Artemis Amaranth, God of Time..."

Kiely couldn't help gapping a little. So all the stories she had learned about in school. . . were not so much myths as she had thought. It still seemed sureal; like a dream that she would soon wake from. A tickling in the back of her mind however, warned her not to take that for granted.

"So," she whispered, "what will happen then? Like. . . you won't have to go away, will you?"

Artemis shook his head. "I can stay if I so wish it. Once I obtain my title and my license, I'll be an official god in the eyes of the council, and that means I can do pretty much whatever I want, except for harm innocent people."

Kiely smiled slightly.

"That's . . . cool," she said, just happy that he would not have to leave. She had just made friends with him; she would have hated to say goodbye so soon.

"So, is it okay that I know?" she asked nervously. "I mean, I don't want to get you into any trouble, or anything."

When she asked the question, Artemis looked her in the eye, folding his arms across his chest. "Well, there's no rule saying that immortals can't give up their secrets. But, as I'm sure you are aware thanks to your history lessons, when people discover the supernatural among them, they've a tendency to try to destroy it. So, I can't allow you to speak of this, our little secret, to other people. Do you understand, Kie-chan?" He sipped softly at the tea before looking to her again.

Kiely nodded, eyes wide.

"I wouldn't have dreamed of telling your secret!" she insisted. "I'm just. . . kind of happy. That you would trust me with something like that." She blushed.

Artemis blinked before giving a small smile.

"You are my friend. I'm quite sure I can trust any of my secrets to you. Perhaps even teach you a few things about your own untapped power." He sipped more tea, setting the empty cup down and looking out the nearby window. "Perhaps you'd like to see your room first, though?"

Michelle started a bit. What did he mean, her own untapped power? She shook her head. He must have misspoken - there was nothing special about her.

"I'd like that," she said quietly. "That is, if your sure you don't mind me living here."

The whole day had happened so quickly though, that she couldn't really refuse. Maybe she could just stay for one night. . .

Artemis shook his head. "Not at all. Stay as long as you like." He smiled, then stood up, humming a bit as he picked up Kiely's bags and took began to take them upstairs. "This way, please."

Kiely followed him up the stairs, a bit unnerved by the size of the place. It was grand compared to what she was used to.

"I guess all there is to do in that case, is to thank you for your hospitality," she said as they walked. She bowed slightly. "So thank you. I'll try not to be too much of a bother."

Artemis tilted his head as he opened a door. "I doubt you'll be a bother, Kiely." As the door opened, the room was revealed to be rather large, at least 20x20 feet. It had a nice bed, a small table for at least 6 people, and many dressers and wardrobes. "I hope it suits you."

Kiely's eyes widened as she entered the room. It was modestly decorated, but it was clean and spacious, which was more than she could have asked for.

"I think this room is bigger than my whole house," she joked.

"I'm sorry if it's too large. My family did own a great amount of things throughout the world. Pharmaceutical buildings, schools, etc. So we used to get rich and famous people who'd want to come stay with us a few days." Artemis smiled lightly, remembering his past for a moment.

Kiely shook her head.

"It's wonderful. Thank you!" She fingered her backpack nervously, unsure of what to do now. This day had been so surreal, she still wasn't sure it was really happening.

Artemis looked to Kiely for a moment, his thoughts circling about in his head. "You're quite welcome." He finally smiled, then turned to leave the room. "I'll get dinner ready while you unpack."

Kiely nodded and smiled as Artemis departed from the room. She unpacked her few belongings with care, wanting to make sure to keep everything tidy. When she was finished, she went hesitantly down the stairs. She could already smell tantalizing food cooking on the stove, so she went into the kitchen.

Artemis was watching the food, garbed in a white apron, which she couldn't help but think was adorable.
"Is there anything I can help with?"

The lad turned around, blinking upon the sight of Kiely. His apron read "Just Eat It", and he was flipping what appeared to be vegetables around in a stir-fry pan. "Well, I could use your help, if you don't mind chopping onions."
