PostSubject: The Truth Is... (Savvy, Ava)   Mon Dec 14, 2009 9:06 pm

It was a calm, beautiful Monday morning. The sun shined over the city and the beauty of the forest beside it. No one might suspect that, living deep within it, were two people who didn't even know the other lived in it either.

That morning, at 6:15 AM, Artemis Amaranth, son of Avan and Mina Amaranth, got up and made his breakfast before preparing for school. He was 18, and a high school senior. What was better, the first day of the school year had started. Turning to face his desk, he bowed lightly to the picture sitting on his desk. "I'll be home this afternoon, Mother...Father." He then turned, heading downstairs to go out the door, stepping into the bright sun. "...What a beautiful morning..."

Kiley Parker wandered the woods, stumbling slightly. She had been up all night, forsaking sleep. It had to be around here somewhere, it just had to be! A few days ago, she had ran into some . . . problems with one of her classmates. He had taken the golden locket right off of her neck, and refused to give it back. After a few days of persistant questioning, she had discovered that he had threw it deep into these woods. That locket was the last thing her little brother had given her before that terrible bus accident. She couldn't just let it lie in the dirt somewhere. So here she was, eyes straining in the still-dim morning light, trying to find her most valuable possession.

As Artemis stepped onto his front porch, he blinked, seeing something shining in a bush nearby. Stepping toward this bush, he knelt down, picking up what seemed to be a necklace with a locket.. The chain necklace was silver, and the locket seemed to be white gold and shaped like a teddy bear's head. A small smile came to his eyes as he examined it. He had seen a girl at his school with it before. She was the only girl he knew who had such an object, so finding her and returning the locket would hopefully be easy. Now if only he knew what her name and classes were.

Sighing, he took a few more steps, then stopped as a girl bumped into him and he backed up a bit. "Oh my, I'm sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going."

Kiley looked up, slightly confused. She hadn't expected anyone to be in this part of the woods. Upon closer examination, she realized that she recognized this particular somebody from school. What was his name again? Arthur? No. . . Artemis. That was it. She backed up, embarrassed at having bumped into him.

"N-no, it was my fault," she confessed. "I was looking for something, and I didn't see you there. Sorry."

She looked up at him with big hazel eyes, completely oblivious to the fact that he was holding the one thing that she had been up all night looking for.

Artemis took a step back, blinking when he noticed who had bumped into him. "Oh, Kiley...Good to see you again, this year...Which reminds me, I think this belongs to you." He held out the locket and waited for her to take it, dusting himself off.

Kiley blinked, unsure she dared to trust her eyes. Could it really be that simple, after she had been searching for so long? Regardless, she reached out with one hand and took it. With a smile, she quickly clasped it around her neck before looking back at Artemis.

"Thank you!" she said happily. "I don't know what I would have done if I'd lost it!"

Artemis gave a small smile and shook his head. "Well, you did lose it. And I suppose I found it, but what was it doing near my house, I wonder? For that matter, what were you doing out here? School's going to start soon if we don't get going." He then began to walk off, turning to face her as he went. "Shall we walk together?"

Kiely blushed, but didn't refute him. She hadn't really lost it, it had been stolen from her, but she didn't want to talk about that anyway. She was slightly flustered by his abrupt speech, but she quickly began to tail him.

"I didn't know anyone lived back here," she confessed. "I had just come to look for this." She had to nearly trot to keep up with him, so she was slightly out of breath as she spoke.

Artemis nodded and smiled. "Yeah, I live here in my family's house. It's nothing fancy or anything, just a quiet little place...But enough about that, what about you? Where do you live at?" He looked around as they walked, taking in the fresh morning air.

"I live with my dad." She made a face, and left it at that. "You said you live in your family's house, not with your family. Who lives with you?"

At this, Artemis was silent for a moment. Unable to lie, or avoid the subject, he coughed lightly before answering. "I live by myself. Nobody but myself and my cat, Yue."

"Oh," Kiely said a bit awkwardly. "It must be nice to have a pet around for company! My father doesn't allow pets."

Although he probably wouldn't even notice if I brought in a whole menagerie, she added bitterly to herself.

Art laughed softly. "Well, Yue is very playful, and she loves her bell collar. She's always playing with it, and she even does this weird thing where she pulls the collar off, then puts it back on. It's so cute, you wouldn't believe it unless you saw it!"

He coughed lightly. "But anyway, why doesn't your dad allow pets?"

Kiely laughed along with Art, amused by the image she got in her head. She could hardly believe that a cat could be able to put its collar back on by itself.
"I'd like to see that," she said with a chuckle.

Her smile faded as Art mentioned her father, however.
"My father. . ." she shrugged, unsure how to describe that man. "He believes that animals should be either outside, or on the table. That is all."

Artemis looked offended. "That's horrible!!!" Thinking to himself for a moment about his next words. "If you like, you can come by my house after school or something. Yue loves to play with other people." He looked up as they entered the school grounds.

Kiely blushed slightly, and smiled.

"I'd love that. I love animals!"

She looked over at her new and unexpected companion, wondering what to do next. They weren't in the same class, so she really didn't know much about him. She had noticed him in the halls though but then, hadn't everyone? He was one of the most well-liked boys in school. She wondered with a slight smile what people would see if they saw her coming in to school with him.

Artemis merely smiled. "That's great. I'm sure you'll love her. She's the most adorable thing I've ever seen!" He laughed a little, then blinked as they came up to the third floor, otherwise known as the 'Senior Floor'. He stretched a bit. "Have you ever eaten lunch on the roof before?" Artemis asked as they walked, stopping at his classroom door.

Kiely shook her head.

"I usually eat in the cafeteria, or outside."

She stood in the hallway a bit awkwardly, aware that people were beginning to stare.
"We should get to class soon," she whispered, a slow blush creeping up to her cheeks.

Artemis nodded softly. "Well, you should come up to the roof sometime. It's nice and warm there, not to mention quiet." He sneezed lightly, looking around at all of the people who were staring, before he walked into his classroom. "Seeya later."

Kiely nodded, and went to her own classroom. Class seemed to pass unusually slow, and she found herself spacing out. Since that was unusual behavior for her, her teacher let it pass. She tried to focus, but her mind wouldn't let her. Instead, it kept wandering to think about her unusual morning.

As the day went by, Artemis found himself not noticing much of what happened in his classes. That is, until lunch came by. At that point, the 6 foot 9 inches tall 18 year old male Romanian stood, took two steps, and was out the door of his class, heading to the roof, where he hoped to meet that cu-...girl. Yes, that girl, from that morning.

As lunch time came, Kiely grabbed her homemade lunch and headed out to the cafeteria, like always. Half way there, she paused. She bit her bottom lip gently, looking back over her shoulder to the staircase that would take her up to the roof. With a sigh, she turned around and began to climb it. She opened the door, and was instantly hit by a soft gust of wind. She pushed her hair out of her face, and looked around. Had she come too early? Too late?

Artemis hummed as he sat down next to the fence bordering the perimeter of the roof. He sneezed, then looked up and smiled, glad to see the girl he'd invited. He scooted over, making room on the large blanket-like mat he was sitting on, before he opened up an octagonal box with a few foreign designs on it, revealing what might be mistaken for a king's meal, seeing as how it looked so delicious. Humming yet again, Artemis picked up a fork that lay inside the box, then began to chow down on what looked to be fried rice with pieces of a diced egg inside.

Kiely spotted Art sitting near the fence, and went to join him. She blushed slightly as she pulled out her own bento box, which consisted mainly of rice and curry; she wasn't much of a cook. She smiled over at her companion.

"I've never done something like this before," she confessed.

Artemis smiled to Kiely and gave a small shrug. "It's not bad. The view is actually pretty cool." He looked down to her box and chuckled. "Is that all you're having, just curry?"
